to The Rocky
Mountains, World Famous Skiing and year-round Alpine Recreation.
Mt. Evans state park, easy access to world class skiing, and
limited gambling in Gilpin County make Idaho Springs a busy hub.
The community sits along the I-70
corridor, which leads travelers from Denver, west to skiing, hiking
and gambling, as well as to endless recreation. Idaho
Springs is located just 28 miles west of Denver in the Colorado Rocky
Mountains. It is easily accessible from Interstate 70.
It is located in Clear
Creek County and it is estimated that the county growth by 2015
will
be 12,100. Tourism is the main source
of revenue.
Idaho Springs was started
as a result of Colorado's first major gold discovery in 1859 by George
Jackson.
The town was
incorporated in 1885. Downtown is listed in the National Historic
District Registry and is considered one of the best preserved areas in
the state due to the fact that it has not lost its buildings to a
major fire like many other historic towns. |
