Clear Creek, Gilpin, Summit & Jefferson
Counties are a true hub of available activities! With over a million
acres of National Forest surrounding the area and the addition of Mt.
Evans State Park numerous recreational opportunities are available
including hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, four wheeling,
fishing, and sightseeing, cross country skiing, and mountain biking.
In the early 1990’s limited stakes
gambling was approved in Black Hawk and Central City for those
wishing to test their luck, and the area has now grown to be one of
the largest Gambling areas in the state.
Fishing is also very big in Clear
Creek and Summit counties with Clear Creek, Chicago Creek,
Georgetown Lake, Green Mountain Reservoir and nearby Lake Dillon
Reservoir.
Alpine skiing is within an easy 25 to 90 minute drive to
Loveland Ski Area, Keystone, Breckenridge and Copper, Winter Park
Ski Area and world famous Vail and Aspen.
Also close by, in the
Denver Metro area are The Pepsi Center, Coors Field and Invesco
Field, hosting the Rockies, Colorado Avalanche, the Nuggets and the
Bronco’s as well as numerous concerts and special events.
The Charlie Taylor Water Wheel is
located at the base of Bridal Veil Falls. The largest water wheel in
Colorado, it was built by Charlie Taylor in 1893, who attributed his
robust health to never shaving, never bathing and never kissing

The Idaho Springs National
Historic District is located right downtown from 13th Avenue
on Miner Street. It features many historical
buildings displaying Victorian architecture of the late
1800s.
The
Jackson Monument is on Highway 103 in front of Clear Creek Middle
School. George J. Jackson made the first major gold discovery in
Colorado here on January 7, 1859.
Mount Evans Scenic Byway is also on
Highway 103. It's open from Memorial Day to snowfall closing. It is
the highest paved road in North America and raises some 14,264 feet at
the summit with many opportunities for viewing bighorn sheep, mountain
goats, bristle cone pines and alpine tundra. You'll love the
spectacular views of the Continental Divide!
